Mortal Kombat 1 is the 12th mainline entry and series reboot into the legendary fighting gaming franchise from NetherRealm studios. MK1 directly follows the events of MK11 (Spoiler Alert If you haven't finished the games campaign) where Earth Realm's champion Liu Kang and Raiden The Thunder God discover that the reason they lost both in present time (MK9-M11) and the past (Mortal Kombat-Mortal Kombat Armageddon) was because Kronika the Titan of Time used her powers to consistently put them at odds during their quest to save the realms from Shao Khan and his Outworld forces. Liu's quick thinking gets Raiden to fuse him and his current self the King Of NetherRealm while giving up his Godhood to him giving him both the power of the Fire Dragon and the power of Thunder God to defeat Kronika and then Shang Tsung who counted on her defeat by the hands of Earth Realms forces. Liu Kang then decides to reset the timeline in which he goes all the way back to the first Mortal Kombat tournament where Kung Lao's Great Grandfather was Earth Realms Champion and Raiden first became a God.
MK1's announcement trailer shows that Liu Kang is giving everyone a choice for a way forward and Shang Tsung looks to be the main villain again although he will be a Pre-Order bonus for the game so we may see another big bad like Shao Khan step from the shadows or a all new threat that seeks to take back the power from the Fire God's control. Mortal Kombat 1 will be release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S Nintendo Switch and on PC Via Steam and The Epic Games Store on September 19th 2023 with both a Premium And Collector's Edition by Coarse as well as five day early access to the game and one week early access for DLC characters. Amazon Prime Video's The Boys Villain Homelander and Invincible's Omni-Man have been leaked by ironically Amazon Italy as DLC fighters as well as DC's Suicide Squad Member Peacemaker. Legendary Actor and Martial Artist Jean Claude Van Damme Will be a skin for Johnny Cage for MK 1 as originally intended for the Original Mortal Kombat
NetherRealm Studio's a.so did a Kommunity Kast with Community Director Lansdown and serries creator and Director of MK1 Ed Boon in which they give a bit of a introduction/overview of the game. Mortal Kombat 1 will feature an all new Story Campaign and completely reimaged characters as well as for the first time in MK History Kameo Fighters or Asist Characters. Ed Boon has also announced on Twitter that the gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 will be revealed at Summer Games Fest on June 8th 2023.
